Women's Golf Tied For Sixth In Ryder Championship

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. – Monica Gundersrud fired a one-under-par 71 to leadCentral Florida to an eight-stroke lead over second place South Floridafollowing the first day of competition at the RYDER/Florida Women’sCollegiate Golf Championship at Don Shula’s Golf Club in Miami Lakes, FL.
Central Florida had all five players record scores of 77 or betterin posting a first round total of 298. South Florida post a team total of306 while Florida (313) is in third. Last years champion, Florida Stateposted an opening round 318 and is tied for fourth with Rollins College.
Gundersrud, who leads the individual competition, was the onlyplayer to break par in the opening round. Florida International’s EllenDunne is in second place after recording a first round score of 72 whilelast year’s individual champion Line Berg (39-35-74) of Central Florida isin third.
Miami, which is hosting the event for the 16th consecutive year, istied for sixth place after a first round 319. Sophomore Lavana Davisrecorded an opening round 76 to lead the Hurricanes.
Second round action starts Saturday, April 1 at 7:30 a.m.
