UM Women's Track Dominate Hurricane Invitational

CORAL GABLES, FL – The University of Miami women’s track team dominated the Hurricane Invitational, taking more first place finishes than any other competing institution with six top times in four individual events and two relays.

The `Canes recorded several first and second place finishes. In the 800-meter, Patricia Pearson (2:07.20) took top honors while Danika Dodds was the runner-up with a time of 2:07.21. UM took first and second in the 1,500 meter run as well with Natalie Watson running in 4:37.20, followed by Leatrice Shaw (4:41.25).

Other first place performances included Wylleshia Myrick’s 23.67 in the 200-meter dash, the Hurricanes 4×100 meter relay (46.04) and the 4×400 relay team (3:40.05).

Katreshia Louis placed second in the 100-meter with a time of 12.32. UM picked up third and fourth place in the 400-meter as Saraque Whittaker finished in 55.02 followed by Jenise Winston (55.34).

In the hurdles, Sharianne Lawson placed second in the 100-meter high with 13.89. Jamillah Wade (1:02.30) and Rashiela Ruddock (1:03.06) finished in third and fifth respectively in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles.

The success continued in the field events as Gina Harris (5.9m/19’04.25) and Kareen Clarke (5.89m/19’04.00) finished first and second in the long jump, Suzette Rose (5.63m/18’05.75) trailed in fifth. Harris took fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.89m/39’00.25. Rose (11.57m/37’11.50) placed seventh. Adrienne Moss took third in the shot put competition with a toss of 13.09m/42’11.50.
