Crew Launches Season At The President's Cup

Coral Gables, FL – The University of Miami men’s and women’s crew travel to Tampa, FL to begin the 2000 sprint season at the annual President’s Cup Regatta, Saturday, March 11.
“It is very exciting to begin the season,” said Head Crew Coach Joe O’Connor. “Our rowers have been training very hard for the upcoming season. Especially our varsity women, who coming into the season with a national ranking for the first time.”
The Hurricanes are led by its Varsity Women’s Eight, who hold a No. 19 national ranking in the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/USRowing Poll.
The varsity women eight consists of coxswain Jenny Lee and rowers Marijka VanderPol, Britta Chambers, Marleen Meijeringh, Amanda Turner, Cathy Dunnet, Elizabeth Payer, Megan McGrath and Michele McVeagh.
Additionally, the men’s varsity eight received two votes in the preseason poll, which places them tied for 28th.
UM’s first home event of the season will take place Saturday, March 18 against Central Florida on Indian Creek in Miami Beach.
