Baseball Hosts Villanova

Feb. 24, 2000

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami baseball team (8-5), ranked No. 10 in the latest Baseball Weekly/ESPN Coaches’ Poll, will host Villanova (0-1) on Friday, February 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Mark Light Stadium.

The Hurricanes are coming off a 4-0 record last week. Miami defeated Barry, 5-3, in a mid-week game followed by a three-game sweep of South Florida over the weekend. Villanova fell, 25-3, to William & Mary in its season-opener on February 11 and then had its next two games against the Tribe cancelled due to rain.

On the mound for the Hurricanes, will be senior ace David Gil (2-0), who will be looking for his 16th consecutive win. In his last outing against South Florida, Gil earned the victory pitching six innings with a team season-high 12 strikeouts. Gil won his last outing of the 1998 season, followed by a 12-0 record in 1999 and started the 2000 campaign with a win over Wake Forest.

Making his season-debut for Villanova is left-handed Aaron Krawiec.
