Jan. 23, 2000

Coral Gables, FL – The Defending National Champion University of Miami baseball program will holds its second annual golf tournament, to benefit the baseball building fund, on Monday, January 24 at the Deering Bay Yacht and Country Club.

Registration begins at 11 a.m. followed by a catered lunch with the Hurricane baseball players, coaches and various local media personalities. A shotgun start is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.

The 2000 Hurricanes, plus an assortment of alumni players, will be among the attendees at the banquet following the day’s golf activities. The banquet, which is open to the public at $30 per person, will also include a silent auction of travel, entertainment and sports memorabilia.

An estimated $61,000 was raised at the first annual tournament, held prior to the 1999 season. This season, a goal of $75,000 was set. The 2000 proceeds will go towards a new batting cage/toss area to be built in place of the current structure.

“We will construct a batting cage that includes four tunnels and six toss areas,” said Head Coach Jim Morris. “The facility that’s currently in place served nearly every great player that has come through this program over the past three decades.”
