The King's Court
Dec. 13, 2000
Well fans a bit of a twist this week since I do not have a prior game to speak of, all my focus and our team’s focus is directed mainly at the Yellowjackets of Georgia Tech. The guys around here are “Buzzing” with excitement and anticipation about this upcoming challenge. These guys ( Yellowjackets) are a good football team. They have played some very tough opponents and have done well in their games, so you can bet that this game will be a hard-fought contest for 60 minutes.
Well let me get it out of the way now, I know that the million dollar question is … What do we think about quarterback Joe Hamilton? I will say this, anytime you play against a superb athlete as Joe Hamilton, you better bring your hard hat and lunch box because we will have to do some work to contain him. This guy was runner-up in the Heisman Trophy voting, and that says it all right there. Many people think that he should have been the winner, because that’s what he is — a winner. He does anything possible to get his team in the best position possible to win, that is what makes him good.
Now that finals are over, we can really turn full concentration to football. Most everyone on the team finished up good and there are no suspensions due to academic reason which is fabulous. The team as a whole did a great job in the classroom this fall, in that with the tedious football schedule, we buckled down when it counted and finished up well.
I would just like to send a tribute out to one of my professors, Dr. Harold Strauss, Professor of Management, who suddenly passed away early this week. I had him for one of my management requirements. He was not only a great teacher, but he was a good-hearted person. One of the good guys that always asked about the spirit of the team, and boy was he a big supporter. He told me a story about having former Hurricane Michael Irvin in his class. He was just an all around good guy and he will be missed by many, especially me. He enjoyed everyday he would teach and he loved what he did. We all should take something from him…
And a special Merry Christmas wish to all of our ‘Cane fans and a Happy Holidays wish to all.
Remember fans get your tickets early because I want to see your cheering faces in Jacksonville. Just a reminder: 1-800-GO CANES.
FROM A ‘CANE TO ALL THE CRAZED ‘CANES FANS,
