Swimming And Diving Set To Battle Rutgers

CORAL GABLES, FL – The University of Miami Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving teams are set to battle Rutgers University on Saturday, January 15th at 11:00 a.m. at the Whitten Student Union Pool on the Coral Gables Campus.

The Hurricane swimming teams are coming off a meet last weekend in which the women (5-4) beat both Georgetown University and the University of Massachusetts, while the men (2-7) defeated Georgetown, but fell to UMASS.

The Hurricane diving teams are coming off a weekend in which they took first-place in five of the six events at the Georgia Diving Invitational, including a 1-2-3 sweep in the women’s 1-meter event. The ‘Canes also took home second-place in three of the six events.

So far this season, the Hurricane women have been led by 1999 NCAA Diver of the Year and senior All-American Jenny Keim (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), senior All-American Amy Lindblom (Milford, CT), senior NCAA qualifier Julie Kemp (Potomac, MD), junior Jen Weir (Cooper City, FL), freshman Elaine Schwartz (Mt. Laurel, NJ), and freshman Katie Beth Bryant.

The Hurricane men have been led by sophomore All-American Stefan Ahrens (Lictenhagen-Dorf, Germany), junior Daniel Asencio (Newark, NJ) sophomore Scott Gentles (Atlanta, GA), and freshman Jon Skinner (Raleigh, NC).

Following this weekend’s meet, the ‘Canes return to action on Saturday, January 22 against the University of Connecticut at the Whitten Student Union Pool on the Coral Gables Campus.
