Hurricanes Solid at Georgia Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Miami men’s and women’s swimming and divingteams gave a valiant effort at the Georgia Invitational this weekend, butcame up a little short against some of the top teams in the nation.
The women avenged one of their early season losses to Tennessee byfinishing ahead of the 18th ranked Volunteers, but fell to Alabama,Clemson, and host and No. 1-ranked Georgia. Sophomore Emily Spychala(Odessa, FL) and freshman Katie Beth Bryant (Chatham, IL) led theHurricanes, as they took first and second in the 1-meter diving event.
Sophomore Imre Lengyel (Lictenhagen-Dorf, Germany) recorded first andsecond place finishes in the 3-meter and 10-meter platform diving eventsto lead the men. Senior Tyce Routson (Provo, UT) contributed with secondand third place finishes in the 3-meter and 10-meter platform divingevents, but the Hurricanes didn’t have enough to compete with Clemson,Georgia Tech, Alabama, 11th-ranked Tennessee, and host and No. 7-rankedGeorgia.
The Hurricanes return to action on Saturday, December 13 against theUniversity of Tampa at the Whitten Student Pool on the University of Miamicampus.
