MIAMI (AP) – Elton Tyler scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Miami to a 102-75 victory over Bethune-Cookman Tuesday, marking the fourth time this decade the Hurricanes have reached 100 points.

Johnny Hemsley scored 19 points and became the 22nd player in school history to reach 1,000 career points after hitting a 3-pointer 1:44 into the game. Five Miami players hit double figures in points.

Freddie Cole, who made 6 of 9 3-pointers, led the Wildcats (2-2) with 22 points. Larry Gilbert added 15.

Miami (3-0) reached 100 points once last season, a 103-82 victory over Villanova on Feb. 16.

Miami’s Vernon Jennings had 12 assists before leaving late in the game with a dislocated left shoulder.

Leroy Hurd helped Miami open a 28-point lead by scoring all 11 of his points in the second half.

The Hurricanes were down by two points when they went on a 16-1 run that included seven points from Tyler to take a 33-20 lead with seven minutes left in the first half.

Tyler had 15 points in the first half to help Miami grab a 49-37 lead at the break.

The Hurricanes shot 56.7 percent in the first half and 54.1 overall, while sinking 32 of 39 free throws and outrebounding Bethune-Cookman 47-28.

Cole kept the Wildcats close in the first half, hitting three consecutive 3-pointers to turn a 13-10 deficit into a 19-17 lead. That would be Bethune-Cookman’s only lead of the game.

Cole had 17 of his team’s 37 points at halftime.

Hemsley had two fast-break baskets to ignite a 9-0 run to help Miami open up a 74-53 lead with 10:28 remaining.
