Varsity Eight Grabs Bronze Medal at Rivanna Romp

Charlottesville, VA – The University of Miami varsity women’s eight closed out the fall racing season with a Bronze Medal finish at the Rivanna Romp, hosted by the University of Virginia, held at the Rivanna Reservoir.
The varsity women’s eight “A” boat completed the course with a time of 14:25.5, behind first-place Virginia “A” (14:01.1 and Ohio State “A” (14:10.6). In the race, UM defeated eights from Virginia, North Carolina, Duke and Clemson.
The varsity women are led by coxswain Jenny Lee and rowers Marijka VanderPol, Britta Chambers, Marleen Meijeringh, Amanda Turner, Cathy Dunnet, Elizabeth Payer, Megan McGrath and Michele McVeagh.
UM’s varsity four entry finished fifth in its race with a time of 15:30.7. The Virginia “B” boat (15:30.7) won the race ahead of Virginia “A” (15:05.7) and Ohio State “A” (15:16.3). The UM “B” boat finished 12th (16:20.5).
The Rivanna Romp completed the fall racing season for the varsity women. The Fall Freshman Regatta, featuring only novice and freshman crews, closes out the season on Saturday, Nov. 20 in Gainesville, FL.
