Hurricanes Travel to the Head of the Chattahoochee Regatta

Coral Gables, FL – The University of Miami varsity men’s and women’s crew will send its varsity eight and four boats to the Head of the Chattahoochee Regatta on Saturday, November 6 at the Olympic Course in Gainesville, GA.
The varsity women will send to Eight shells to race in the Championship and Club Eight races. In addition, the women will also race a Championship and Club Four shell. The UM varsity women have enjoyed one of their best fall seasons in program history as they raced to the fastest times at their own Head of the Creek Regatta and placed 13th among college boats and 16th overall at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston.
Leading the UM varsity women’s eight at the Head of the Chattahoochee will be coxswain Jenny Lee, Marijka VanderPol, Britta Chambers, Marleen Meijeringh, Amanda Turner, Cathy Dunnet, Elizabeth Payer, Megan McGrath and Michele McVeagh.
The UM varsity men have also enjoyed one of its strongest seasons ever, with first place finishes at the Head of the Creek and most recently at the First Coast Head Race on the Arlington and St. John’s Rivers in Jacksonville. The varsity men, who claimed first place in three of the four events they entered at the First Coast Head Race, are led by coxswain Rob Bowman, Jas Grocholski, Rich Gustin, Michael Hayes, Holt Haynsworth, Chris Manti, James Riley, Albert Parlade and Alex Meillat.
Following the Head of the Chattahoochee, the varsity women will compete at the Rivanna Romp, hosted by the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA.
