Canes Continue March Through BIG EAST Play

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 22nd ranked University of Miami football team (4-3,2-0 BIG EAST) held a two-hour workout in full pads on Wednesday afternoon atthe Greentree Practice Facility. With the practice, the Hurricanescontinued preparation for their matchup with Pittsburgh (4-4, 2-3 BIG EAST)on Saturday at noon at Pitt Stadium in Pittsburgh, PA. Saturday’s game willmark the third of eight consecutive BIG EAST Conference contests for the’Canes.
Following the practice, Head Coach Butch Davis was enthusiasticabout the team’s attitude during the mid-week workout. Davis credited thescout team’s effort for much of the team’s production.
“The players were very into it today,” said Davis. “Much of thetempo of a practice sometimes is determined by the enthusiasm and the effortof the scout team. They (the scout team) have really turned it up a notch.Kevin Beard, Anthony Johnson, Andre Johnson, and some of the offensivelinemen are doing a great job on offense. Defensively, the scout team isdoing a nice job too. Some of those young guys are really starting to learnand aren’t intimidated now. Their performance really makes a big impact onpractice.”
Sophomore running back Najeh Davenport and senior linebacker MichaelSmith are both expected to be out for the year with right knee injuries.There were no new injuries to report.
The Hurricanes will return to practice on Thursday afternoon at theGreentree Practice Facility on the UM campus.
