Miami Falls to No. 6 Notre Dame, 5-0, in BIG EAST Quarterfinals

Notre Dame, IN – Notre Dame scored four goals in the second half to surge past the University of Miami women’s soccer team (12-8), 5-0, at Alumni Field on the ND campus.
The Hurricanes, who were outshot 44-3, held the Irish to just one goal in the first half.
In the effort, UM goalkeeper Elizabeth Swinson recorded a program and person-best 16 saves in goal, including nine in the second half.
All-American Anne Makinen scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 13th minute, while Ali Lovelace scored the final two goals as the Irish advance to face Seton Hall in the semifinals at Rutgers University, Nov. 5.
Makinen gave the Irish an early 1-0 lead at 12:07 when she headed in a corner kick from senior defender Kara Brown. Sophomore Mia Sarkesian then volleyed a shot from 25 yards toward the upper part of the net in the 34th minute but Swinson tipped the ball over the crossbar. Notre Dame sent 13 more shots toward the Miami net after Makinen’s goal but Swinson came up with six saves to end the half.
Senior All-American Jenny Streiffer gave the Irish a two-goal lead at 56:50 when junior Meotis Erikson passed the ball from the top of the box to the right wing. Streiffer turned past the defender and fired a shot from 15 yards on the right wing into the upper left corner of the net. Her 66th career goal came on her fifth shot of the second half, after Swinson had saved a shot from six yards from a thru ball and after the Hurricanes saved another Streiffer shot off the line
