Baseball, Women's Basketball to Host Howling Hurricanes Haunted House
Oct. 25, 1999
Coral Gables, FL – The University of Miami baseball and women’s basketball teams will host the Fourth Annual Howling Hurricanes Haunted House and Trick-or-Treat Around the Bases, sponsored by McArthur Dairy, on Halloween night, Sunday, Oct. 31, at Mark Light Stadium on the UM campus. The haunted house will be open from 6-8 p.m. and admission is free. An adult must accompany any child under the age of 14.
The haunted house, which will give young people a safe way to spend Halloween, will feature costumed appearances from members of the 1999 National Champion Hurricanes baseball team and UM women’s basketball team.
From 8-8:30 p.m., a costume contest will be held. Judging will be based on overall costume appearance. Five grand prizes will be awarded as well as five second-place prizes. In addition, no participant will come away empty-handed as there will be hundreds of runner-up gifts.
The haunted house will also provide games and prizes for those in attendance as well as opportunities to meet and collect candy from the players, as well as receive autographs.
For younger children, there will be a “Happy House” which will include puppet shows, games and prizes.
The last Howling Hurricanes Haunted House in 1997 drew an estimated 3,000 people. This year’s event, supported by over 100 volunteers and donors, is expected to draw an even larger crowd.
