Hurricanes Fall To No. 17 Harvard, 2-0, In Miami Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Sophomore forward Colleen Moore scored one goaland assisted on another to lead the 17th-ranked Harvard Crimson (10-1-1) toa 2-0 victory over the University of Miami (9-6) in the final day ofcompetition at the inaugural Miami Invitational held at Cobb Stadium inCoral Gables.
Junior forward Ashley Mattison broke a scoreless tie in the 63rdminute of play with a goal off an assist from Moore. On the play, Mooregathered a loose ball deep in Miami territory and sent the ball to Mattison.Mattison one-timed the pass into the lower left-hand corner of the goal fromabout 5 yards out.
Moore then tacked on an insurance goal just one minute and sixseconds later. Moore broke down the right sideline behind the Miami defenseon a pass freshman midfielder Orly Ripmaster and beat Miami goalkeepersophomore Elizabeth Swinson one-on-one with a shot to the upper corner ofthe near post.
In Sunday’s first match, Butler (5-7-2) and West Virginia (8-8-1)battled to a scoreless tie.
The Hurricanes return to action this weekend when they travel toPittsburgh (Oct. 22) and Notre Dame (Oct. 24) to close out BIG EAST regularseason conference play.
