Hurricane Crew Squads Race To Fast Times At Head Of The Creek Regatta

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s and women’s varsitycrews each recorded the fastest times of the day at the Head of the CreekRegatta on Indian Creek in Miami Beach.
“I am very pleased with the way our varsity eights raced thisafternoon,” said Head Crew Coach Joe “Okie” O’Connor. “We took our topvarsity women’s eight and split them into two full eights with some of ourother rowers, so I did not expect them each to row as fast as they didtoday. With the Head of the Charles next weekend, our performance was veryencouraging.”
The two varsity women’s eights each raced to times of 16:07.45 and16:37.69 on the course located by UM’s Ron W. Shane WatersportsCenter.
The varsity men’s eight recorded the fastest time of the day, men’sor women’s, with a time of 14:53.95.
UM’s varsity women’s four recorded a time of 17:40.9, ahead of BarryUniversity’s 18:05.13.
In the women’s club eight race, the UM “A” boat recorded the toptime at 15:50.34, while the UM “B” boat finished a close second at 15:56.06.Barry claimed the third fastest time at 18:04.34. The UM men’s club eightrecorded a time of 15:18.2.
“Heading into the Head of the Charles, I think we are right ontrack,” added O’Connor. “The varsity really showed a lot of spirit andeffort today. Our next race will probably tell us where we standnationally, so it is an exciting time for UM Crew.”
