Women's Soccer Takes On Divison II No. 1 Wednesday

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s soccer team (6-3,1-1 BIG EAST) take on the NCAA Division II No. 1-ranked team Lynn University(6-0) on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. at Cobb Stadium on the UM campus.
The Hurricanes recently opened up its BIG EAST portion of theschedule with a 2-0 shutout victory at Providence and a 3-0 loss to No. 18Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA. Following Lynn, UM will hostconference schools Syracuse, St. John’s and Connecticut during the firstweek of October.
Miami is led by freshman forward Allison McWhinney, who leads theteam in goals (7) and scoring (18 points). She recently scored the gamewinning goal at Providence, while assisting on UM’s lone other score.Sophomore forward Jenny Sanchez, who netted four goals against FloridaAtlantic, places second on the team with nine overall points.
Current Miami head coach Jim Blankenship previously served as thehead coach for Lynn’s women’s program for 12 seasons prior to accepting theUM post in 1998. At Lynn, Blankenship won three national titles, finishedrunner-up on four other occasions and was named National Coach of the Yearfive times.
Cobb Stadium is located on San Amaro Drive between the HechtAthletic Center and Mark Light Baseball Stadium on the UM campus. Admissionis free.
