Miami-East Carolina Matchup Draws Near

CORAL GABLES, FL — The ninth ranked University of Miami footballteam conducted a two-hour workout in full pads on Thursday afternoon at theGreentree Practice Facility. With the practice, the Hurricanes continuedpreparation for their matchup with East Carolina on Saturday atCarter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, North Carolina. The game is being playedin Raleigh, rather than Greenville, NC due to the aftermath of HurricaneFloyd.
Following the practice, Head Coach Butch Davis addressed the team’sperformance over the week of work.
“Overall this has been a very productive week of practice,” said Davis.”The players have worked hard to learn the gameplan for East Carolina andhave been practicing with a lot of enthusiasm all week.”
Davis spoke highly of East Carolina’s team and emphasized the importance ofa solid Miami performance on Saturday.
“East Carolina is a very talented and dangerous team,” said Davis. “We aregoing to have to play at our very best to win this football game.”Sophomore running back Najeh Davenport and senior linebacker Michael Smithare both out for the year with right knee injuries. There were no newinjuries to report.
The Hurricanes will depart for Raleigh tomorrow morning. Once in Raleigh,the Hurricanes will conduct a closed walk-though at Carter-Finley Stadium.
UM HELPS OUT GREENVILLE, NC: To help those in Greenville, NC in theaftermath of Hurricane Floyd, the University of Miami will be sending atruck of supplies to the East Carolina University campus next week. TheUniversity of Miami office of Student Affairs is working with theircounterparts at East Carolina to gather items most needed by the EastCarolina University student body. HealthSouth Doctors’ Hospital of CoralGables in conjunction with the Miami football team doctors is donatingmedical supplies.
In addition, University of Miami student body will becollecting monetary donations at the Hurricanes’ next home game versusTemple on October 16. The money will be sent to the Greenville chapter ofthe Red Cross to aid flood victims. The Red Cross will also be collectingitems on Saturday at Carter-Finley Stadium.
MIAMI-EAST CAROLINA ON POWER 96: Saturday’s Miami-East Carolina game will bebroadcast on WPOW, 96.5 FM (POWER 96) at 6 p.m., rather than WQAM, 560 AM.The Hurricane Game Day pre-game show will be broadcast on WQAM, 560 AMbeginning at 4 p.m. The UM-ECU game is being moved to POWER 96 due to aconflict with Saturday’s Colorado Rockies-Florida Marlins game.
