Men's Hoops Releases 1999-2000 Schedule

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami athletic director Paul Deeand head basketball coach Leonard Hamilton announce the Hurricanes 1999-2000men’s basketball schedule.

The schedule features eleven games against teams that were selectedfor post-season play last season including contests against national powersNorth Carolina (Dec. 19), Kentucky (Jan. 29) and defending NCAA ChampionConnecticut (Feb. 19).

Miami’s schedule includes 15 games at Miami Arena highlighted byseven-time NCAA Champion Kentucky, Conference USA champion UNC Charlotte(Dec. 7) and eight BIG EAST conference tilts including perennial powersSyracuse (Jan. 8), Georgetown (Feb. 7) and St. John’s (Mar. 5).

Miami opens its schedule on the road against Central Florida (Nov.19) before returning to Miami for its home opener on Nov. 23 versus Monmouthat the Miami Arena. The Hurricanes open their BIG EAST schedule at homeagainst West Virginia on Jan. 5.

In addition, the Hurricanes will take on North Carolina (Dec. 19) inthe HIP Health Plan Orange Bowl Basketball Classic at the National CarRental Center in Sunrise, FL before travelling to Puerto Rico for the SanJuan Shootout Dec. 20-22. The trip to Puerto Rico marks the Hurricanes’second appearance in the San Juan Shootout. Miami also competed in thetournament in 1991.

Miami will have six regular season games nationally televisedincluding home games against Kentucky (CBS, 1:00), Georgetown (ESPN, 7:00),Notre Dame (ESPN) and St. John’s (CBS, Noon), and road games againstVillanova (ESPN, 7:00) and Connecticut (ABC, 3:30).

“This is one of the most exciting schedules we’ve had since I cameto Miami,” said head coach Leonard Hamilton. “The competitive level of theBIG EAST Conference took another tremendous jump last season and willcontinue to improve with the excellent talent entering the league thisseason. Our non-conference games versus Kentucky, North Carolina, UNCCharlotte and Memphis as well as participating in the San Juan Shootoutallow us the opportunity to challenge some of the best teams from around thecountry and help us prepare for our tough league schedule.”

Season tickets for the upcoming Hurricane Basketball season are $232for sidecourt reserved or $150 for endcourt reserved. University of Miamialumni can purchase season tickets as part of the UM Alumni plan for $115.Miami is also offering a five-game BIG EAST mini plan for $75 in which onecan choose to attend any five BIG EAST conference contests.
