CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 12th ranked University of Miami football teamcontinued pre-season practice with a two-hour workout in full pads onThursday at the Greentree Practice Facility. Thursday’s practice marked thefirst day of direct preparation for No. 9 Ohio State, Miami’s openingopponent at the Kickoff Classic on Sunday, August 29th at Giants Stadium inEast Rutherford, NJ.
Head Coach Butch Davis was positive about the team’s response in itsfirst day of direct preparation vs. Ohio State.
“Today was our first day of practice for Ohio State,” said Davis.”Every time that you turn your full attention to an opponent, there isalways a bit of an adjustment period. But, I thought it went very welltoday. The players’ enthusiasm was outstanding. We weren’t error free, butoverall it was a very good practice.”
Davis also commented on the progress of junior wide receiver ReggieWayne. Wayne missed the final two games of 1998 with a left ACL injury, then underwent reconstructive knee surgery following the ’98 season. “I think Reggie is doing very good,” said Davis. “He has worked very hard.I don’t see any adverse effect. If anything he looks a little faster, whichis usually what happens when a player comes back from a knee injury.”
Cornerback Delvin Brown missed practice after spraining his leftankle in Wednesday’s scrimmage at the Orange Bowl. Offensive guard EricSchnupp returned to action after leaving yesterday’s scrimmage early with abruised left calf. There were no other significant injuries to report.
