Wendy Franklin Named Assistant Crew Coach

Coral Gables, FL – University of Miami Athletic Director Paul Dee and Head Crew Coach Joe O’Connor announce the hiring of Wendy Franklin as Assistant Varsity Women’s Coach/Recruiting Coordinator for the upcoming 1999 season.

“Wendy brings a lot of enthusiasm to University of Miami Crew,” said O’Connor. “She has a tremendous amount of experience at every level of the sport. We are excited to be adding her to our staff.”

Franklin comes to Miami after serving as Novice Crew Coach at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA for the past two seasons. At Mount Holyoke, Franklin guided the novice crew to the conference championship in 1998 as well as a third place finish in the District III New England Championship. In addition to the novice crew, Franklin monitored the team’s NCAA compliance and academic eligibility, recruiting, fundraising and equipment maintenance.

Prior to Mount Holyoke, Franklin served as Head Crew Coach at Woodrow Wilson High School where her men’s lightweight fours won the regional title and finished third in the Northern Virginia Championship. She was also a coaching intern at Georgetown University from 1995-96.

As a rower, Franklin was co-captain of the Mills College crew (1990-93) in Oakland, CA. Franklin earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at Mills in 1993 and is currently a Master’s degree candidate in Exercise Science at George Washington University.

Miami begins the 1999 season with its own Head of the Creek Regatta on Indian Creek in Miami Beach.
