AARON MOSER DIARY(May 31)
Yesterday was a preparation day for me. I went to the track in themorning and warmed up. I ran a couple laps around the track and made sure Istretched out real well.
I went back to the hotel and pretty much just stayed off my feet the restof the day. The weather was really poor yesterday so there wasn’t anything todo anyway. And rain is always good for sleeping.
Last night I went to the track meet at about 5:30 to watch our womencompete. I thought all of our runners performed really well. Wyllesheia(Myrick) and Lauryn (Williams) both advanced in the 100-meters, and Sharianne(Lawson) moved on in the 100-hurdles. The 4×400-meter relay also posted avery fast time.
This week has been a different experience for me because I am not used tobeing at a meet three days before a decathlon. So I’ve just tried to stay ashydrated as I can and rehearse in my mind what I want to do in every event.Kind of a mental prep.
With the decathlon starting today I plan on having a good breakfast andthen just relaxing at the hotel before heading over to the track around 2p.m. My father is flying in today so I am excited about that.
I’m also excited to finally get out there and compete. I have watched thewomen over the last two days and it has really got me ready to go.
(May 30)
I arrived in Baton Rouge with Coach Mike Ward and Coach Campbell on Tuesdayand have been trying to stay relaxed. I have practiced a couple times sincegetting here but the workouts have been more about getting familiar with thefacility. Yesterday I threw the discus around a little and ran a fewaccelerations on the straightaway, but for the most part I’ve tried to stayoff my feet and keep hydrated. The heat and humidity here is similar to Miamiso you have to make sure you drink lots of water.
The facility here is in great shape. It is definitely one of the bestI’ve seen. It is also very fast. There will be a lot of fast times run thisyear.
Some of the women did some sight seeing yesterday but too be honest I’mnot really into sight seeing. I was in New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl twoyears ago so I’ve already seen most of the sights. I did go to the mall onTuesday and bought a pair of sun glasses, but that has been the extent of mynon track related activities so far.
My event (decathlon) doesn’t begin until Friday so I’m a little anxiousto get started. But I must admit it has been nice to just sit in the standsand watch the meet on Wednesday.
It is also nice that they have us competing in prime time. Usually thedecathlon events are run earlier in the day but here they are having uscompete in the evening rather than the hottest part of the day. Two years agoin Durham, NC we started at 11:00 a.m. and it must have been 100 degrees. Thetemperatures should be more hospitable this year.
