UM Golfers Second At Ryder Championships

Miami Lakes, FL – The University of Miami women’s golf team fired an opening-round 303 and is in second-place at the RYDER/Florida Women’s Collegiate Golf Championships at Don Shula’s Golf Club and Resort in Miami Lakes, FL.
Miami, which is hosting the event for the 17th consecutive season, trails Florida by two strokes. The Gators opened the tournament with a score of 301 to take the first round lead.
Sophomore Dominique Gagnon (La Romana, Dominican Republic) shot one-over-par 73 on the first day to lead Miami. She is currently in a third-place tie trailing Michelle Simpson (Florida International) and Jennifer Beames (Rollins) by one-stroke. Simpson and Beames both recorded opening round scores of 72.
Other Hurricanes scoring well on the first day included senior Ashleigh Barrett-Hamilton (Kario, Zimbabwe) and freshman Katie Buscemi (Plantation, FL). Both posted scores of 75 and are in a tie for tenth.
Second round competition continues at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday with the final round taking place on Sunday. Admission is free.
