CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The Miami Hurricanes worked through a rugged two-hour football practice Tuesday afternoon at the Greentree Practice Fields on the UM campus with the focal point of the practice centering on extensive fundamentals with some scrimmaging at the end.

“Ideally, you end the spring with the scrimmage we had last Saturday because it is usually tough to keep everyone’s concentration when you just have two practices in a final week, but I’m happy with the way we came out and worked today,” said head coach Larry Coker. “Sometimes its tough to have a good full-contact practice coming off a scrimmage, but we worked on some corrections of mistakes we made on Saturday and had some good scrimmaging at the close of practice.”

On the injury front, tight end Jeremy Shockey practiced despite the effects of an ankle sprain suffered in Saturday’s scrimmage. Elsewhere, reserve linebacker Carl Walker missed the workout and will miss Wednesday’s practice with a sprained left foot. Also missing practice was walk-on offensive lineman Tariq Vlaun (knee) and reserve defensive lineman Clint Hurtt (knee).

Fans wishing to see a replay of Saturday’s CanesFest 2001 scrimmage can tune into FOX Sports Net Florida this Thursday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m.

Miami closes 2001 spring practice with a workout Wednesday afternoon beginning at 3 p.m. at Greentree. All practices are closed to the public. It will be the final practice for the Hurricanes until fall practice begins in August. Miami opens the 2001 football season at Penn State, taking on the Nittany Lions in the newly expanded (capacity: 106,000) Beaver Stadium in State College, PA, on Saturday, Sept. 1.
