CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Sophomore forward Paulelette Ricks-Chambers’ goal in the 79th minute couldn’t quite provide the spark needed for the Hurricanes to overcome a two-goal deficit as Miami fell to ACC rival Clemson 2-1 Wednesday evening at Cobb Stadium.

After heading into the half trailing the Tigers (7-6-1, 2-3-1 ACC) 2-0, Miami (7-6-1, 1-5-1 ACC) turned up the pressure in the second half and capitalized just before the 80th minute when Sheuneen Ta lobbed a pass into the box to an open Ricks-Chambers, who skillfully flicked a shot over Clemson keeper Ashley Phillips’ head and into the back of the net.

Shortly after, Jessica Wyble nearly hit the equalizer for the Hurricanes in the 86th minute, firing off a shot in front of the net that was narrowly blocked by a Clemson defender, helping secure the CU victory.

“We created some really good opportunities in the second half but I think we have to learn how to compete the same way in each half,” said head coach Tricia Taliaferro. “I think we played great in the second half, it was unbelievable. We just need to see what we have to do to be consistent between the two halves.”

Clemson’s Katie Vogel put the Tigers on the board first in the 22nd minute, knocking down a pass from teammate Molly Franklin inside the box and turning to score on the far left side past UM keeper Lauren McAdam, who finished with five saves on the night.

Just under 10 minutes later Clemson struck again when Julie Holt benefited from a long pass from the left side by Meghan Smith and got off a shot from the top of the box and into the short left post past McAdam.

The Hurricanes travel to Tallahassee, Fla. Sunday for a match-up with in-state ACC rival Florida State in a game that will be televised live on Sun Sports beginning at 1 p.m.
