Soccer Signee Named Colorado Girls' Soccer Player of the Year

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami women’s soccer signee Brittney Macdonald (Littleton, Colo.) was named the 2007 Gatorade Colorado Girls’ Soccer Player of the Year.

The award, which recognizes not only athletic performance, but also meeting high standards of academic achievement while demonstrating exemplary personal character on and off the field, distinguishes Macdonald as one of the nation’s best high school soccer players. The selection process is administered by RISE Magazine, which works with top sport-specific experts and a media advisory board of accomplished, veteran prep sports journalists to determine the state winners in each sport from more than 322,000 high school girl soccer players nationwide. US Youth Soccer serves as the Advisory Board for Boys and Girls Soccer.

Macdonald wrapped up a highly-lauded prep career by assisting on J.K. Mullen High School’s game-winning goal in overtime to defeat Cherry Creek for the Colorado 5A state title. The 5-10 defender earned First-Team All-Colorado accolades by both the Rocky Mountain News and Denver Post, after leading Mullen to a 14-5-1 overall record and a national ranking of 12th by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and adidas.

Macdonald will enter the University of Miami in the fall as a member of the 2007 recruiting class. A 2006 NSCAA/adidas Girls All-American, she also found success in the classroom, earning academic all-state recognition and was the salutatorian of her high school graduating class.

Active with Colorado’s Olympic Development Team since 2003, Macdonald also played club soccer with Real Colorado and the Colorado Rush.
